The Live More programme is our national test, learn and grow initiative, exploring how Shared Lives day arrangements can benefit people living with dementia and their families.

Launched across Greater Manchester last summer, Live More has now been tested in all ten local authority areas, supporting 70 people living with dementia and their families. The programme matches people with a Shared Lives carer who shares their interests, helping them stay active, connected and part of everyday life while giving family carers regular, trusted support.
This year’s evaluation is already building a strong evidence base for the impact of the programme. Alongside positive outcomes data, the stories shared by participants and families highlight the difference that early, relationship-based support can make.

Live More has also attracted growing national interest, including visits from the Casey Commission (independent review of adult social care in England) and coverage in a range of publications. The programme continues to gather momentum, with new programmes now starting in Liverpool, Hartlepool, Leicestershire and Rutland, and North West London preparing to launch. Five additional local areas are also beginning to explore and test the approach.
On 26th June, our National Community of Practice and Learning will meet for the third time. The group brings together areas already delivering Live More, alongside those interested in developing the approach locally. If you would like to find out more or join future sessions, please get in touch.
Colleagues from across the Shared Lives community in Greater Manchester welcomed Sarah McClinton, Chief Social Worker for England and co-chair of the Frailty and Dementia Modern Service Framework Task and Finish Group, to discuss how the Live More model can contribute to national plans for the future of dementia care and support.
Hosted by Persona Care and Support in Bury, the workshop will bring together NHS, local authority, voluntary sector and community leaders, alongside people with lived experience. Sarah will hear directly from people living with dementia, their families and Shared Lives carers about the difference Live More is making in their lives.
The Modern Service Framework for Frailty and Dementia aims to deliver significant improvements in quality of care in England, reduce unwarranted variation and tackle inequalities experienced by people living with frailty and dementia.
