This is the second workshop session of the conference.

Some workshops have limited seats available, which will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

We have workshops aimed at different audiences, but unless explicitly mentioned  it explicitly says so you are welcome to come to any workshop that interest you. See the code below to identify the workshops for each group.

2A - Design for Impact and Awareness

  • Learn about creating a brand with impact and how to use it to raise awareness of your scheme, aligned with Shared Lives Plus UK and Homeshare UK branding
  • Learn to make simple, eye-catching, effective leaflets and posters, social media post and online content.
  • Discover how to use layout, colour and words to attract new people, carers, householders and sharers to your Shared Lives or Homeshare service
  • Have the opportunity to get expert input on your marketing collateral

A presentation and discussion on how Homeshare Providers / Shared Lives can work with and alongside traditional Social Care Providers to benefit the businesses of both parties.

2C - Safeguarding our Homeshare participants

Hosted by – Tim Crahart, Kayleigh Harris, and Jayne Wilson

A workshop looking specifically at our responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and how this relates to Homeshare organisations.

2D - Family by Family

Hosted by – Carly Attridge, Wendy Byrom, and Kate Cooper

An exploration through family stories of the impact of loss on family life, and how strengths based approaches can harness hope instead.

2E - Policy and Shared Living

Hosted by – Michael Kazich and Becky Viney-Wood

Introducing policy and influencing work and what it can do, and has done, in the context of shared living models.

We will cover an overview of the discipline and discuss specific policy challenges and opportunities for shared living, past, present and future.

2F - Dementia Friends

Hosted by – Caroline Cooke

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It is a social action movement aiming to create dementia-friendly communities by improving people’s understanding of dementia and inspiring people to take action.

Alzheimer’s Society wants everyone living with dementia to feel confident and empowered to do things that they have always been able to do, such as buy their groceries or get on the bus. The workshop will explain more about what dementia is and what living with the condition is like and about small ways we can all help make the world a better place for people with dementia.

2G - Making Change Happen - from initial ideas to restructuring of a Shared Lives service

Hosted by – Mark Gallagher, Nick Gordon, and Sophie Hargreaves

This workshop will facilitate discussion and provide support on how to turn an initial idea into reality. It will focus on, e.g. the need, impact, process through to implementation.

2H - Calculating your footprint: Mapping the environmental impact of Shared Lives schemes

Hosted by – Ben Hall and Bernie Kelly

This workshop will look at energy use within Shared Lives and how one scheme has quantified the savings in carbon dioxide.

It will provide look at ways for you to identify the carbon usage of the scheme and where you might make savings.

2I - Supporting parents with learning disabilities in Shared Lives

Hosted by – Ali Miller and Helen Handley

Learn about how and why parents with learning disabilities are supported in Shared Lives.

We will explore the differences between substituted parenting and supported parenting, and look at available resources to support parents and schemes.

2J - Medicine Optimisation

Hosted by – Sean Reck and Maria Yousif from CQC (with Kathryn Morgan)

This session will be a presentation covering:

  • The Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE) that CQC use to look at how providers ensure the proper and safe use of medicines
  • How to access the CQC medicines resources for providers that are currently available.
  • How to contact the Medicines Optimisation Team at CQC

There will be an opportunity for Q and A

2K - Carer Networking (including a discussion about setting up carer led support groups)

Hosted by – Lynne Harrison, Rebecca Day, Steve Collis, and Helen Piscioneri

This is a chance to meet the Shared Lives carer support team includes Steve and Helen our Shared Lives carer champions as well as other carers from across the UK.

Why not join us from the comfort of your own home and meet our friendly team and chat with other Shared Lives carers. We’ll tell you about how important we think shared Lives carer led support groups are and what support is available to help you set one up or get involved in existing groups.

Everybody is welcome and we hope this session will be full of friendly faces with the chance to discuss current issues and get support and advice.
