This Shared Lives week, we are pleased to confirm Shared Lives Stoke-on-Trent are joining Shared Lives Plus’ ‘Live more’ dementia programme. Stoke-on-Trent are one of many Shared Lives schemes across the UK who will support the Government’s mission to shift from hospital to community, and from treatment to prevention – by providing more opportunities to access Shared Lives day support.
At present, Stoke-on-Trent Shared Lives scheme support many people with a learning disability and will be looking to expand this person-centred care to people living with dementia. There will be huge potential for Shared Lives to improve the wellbeing of more people living in Stoke-on-Trent and their family carers. Ian Clarke, dementia lead at Shared Lives Stoke-on-Trent said,
“We are currently in the process of coproducing the model for dementia support and are excited to be joining the ‘Live more’ programme; it will be a fantastic opportunity to work nationally with other schemes to test and evaluate new approaches to Shared Lives day support for people living with dementia and their families.
“Ensuring more people in our local area remain connected and active whilst receiving high quality person-centred support is a key priority. Equally, much needed breaks for family carers are important.”
Following Shared Lives week, Shared Lives Stoke-on-Trent will be looking to recruit new Shared Lives carers to support adults living dementia and adults with a learning disability. It will be a good opportunity for prospective carers to support someone from their home flexibly, on both a day support basis – whether that be for a few hours or a few days a week, and longer-term live-in support.
