Shared Lives carers do amazing work by enriching the lives of the individuals they support, and the communities they live in. The dedication of Shared Lives carers should be recognised and reflected in their earnings.
In 2022, the cost of living is putting enormous pressure on Shared Lives carers. Now, more than ever, it is important that Shared Lives carers are rewarded for their hard work and dedication.
It is vital that Shared Lives Plus can gather data about Shared Lives carer pay across the UK. This will give us a clearer picture of how much Shared Lives carers earn in different regions and countries.
With this information, we will be able to target individual areas to try and improve Shared Lives carer pay.
This survey contains two parts: Part 1 asks for information about your scheme and general information about day support and short break services. Part 2 asks for information about what, and how, your registered long-term Shared Lives carers are paid.
Part 1 is now available for all schemes in the UK.
Part 2 is tailored to schemes in each nation – please see below for information.
Once you have completed Part 1 you will automatically be taken to Part 2.
While many schemes have a single payment model for all carers, we know that there are schemes where things are more complicated – that there are schemes with contracts to deliver Shared Lives care with more than one commissioning organisation, and with more than one payment model.
If your scheme has multiple models/commissioners, please complete a copy of Part 2 for each of your commissioning organisations. You do not have to fill in every form in one sitting, you can return to Part 2 of the survey whenever you have time to fill in the information for that commissioner.
Shared Lives schemes in Scotland and Wales recently provided data regarding fees paid to carers, for which we are very grateful. Rather than ask people to give us the same information again, Scottish and Welsh schemes will only be asked to answer questions asking for additional information. We will email scheme managers in Scotland and Wales as soon as this form is available.
Shared Lives schemes in Northern Ireland will be contacted directly by our Northern Ireland manager Bernie Kelly.
If you have any problems, questions, or comments about the survey, please contact membership@sharedlivesplus.org.uk.
