We had workshops aimed at different audiences, but people were welcome to join any session unless it was specifically limited to a particular group. See the code below to identify the workshops for each group.

1A - Public Liability

Hosted by – Craig Hosking and Christine Howard from Towergate insurance brokers (with Lynne Harrison)

Craig and Christine will provide an outline of what Public Liability insurance is, who uses it in general and why Shared Lives carers need it, they will also talk about the differences between Public Liability insurance and household insurance.

Christine will outline the new landlord insurance offer and there will be an opportunity for those booked onto the workshop to put forward specific questions to be answered during the session.

An interactive workshop on Homeshare giving participants a basic understanding of the model, how it works, its challenges and barriers, and the impact of this innovative and growing model of Housing and Social care support.

This is the first time we’ve offered a workshop to share knowledge and experience of creating content for your service’s webpages.

Whether you can change your own webpages or not, this workshop will take you through what to think about when creating content, and how to make it accessible and relevant to the people you’d like to read it, featuring Shared Lives Camden’s recent website redesign.

The workshop will cover:

  • User experience and design for recruitment
  • Page structure
  • An introduction to keywords
  • Accessible content
  • Working with your comms team

1E - The Challenges of Setting up a New Shared Lives Service in Northern Ireland

Hosted by – Vicki Caddy, Bernie Kelly and Kathryn Morgan.

In Spring 2022 Age NI was successful in securing a three year contract from the Department of Health to establish a Shared Lives scheme for older people in Northern Ireland.

This workshop will address the journey in setting up a new Shared Lives scheme; the successes and challenges.

Among the issues addressed will be:

  • meeting regulatory requirements
  • recruitment of staff
  • engaging with commissioners and local authorities
  • the marketing and promotion of Shared Lives and best practice

1F - Supporting health in Shared Lives

Hosted by – Becky Viney-Wood

This workshop is designed for Shared Lives schemes and Shared Lives carers to think about how they can best support people living in Shared Lives arrangements to access health resources, and to make lifestyle choices that promote wellbeing. In the workshop we will be discussing:

  • People’s rights when it comes to health, including sexual health
  • Choice of healthcare and provider
  • Disability and health discrimination
  • How to support a happy and healthy lifestyle in Shared Lives, including eating for wellbeing, and looking after body and mind

1G - Finances in Shared Lives - issues facing carers and schemes - decision making and financial recording

  • Management of a person in Shared Lives’ benefits and everyday finances for Shared Lives carers
  • Appointeeships – the different types and their pros and cons
  • Financial abuse – how to spot it and take steps to prevent it

1H - Using Communities of Practice for Shared Lives Development

Hosted by – Mark Gallagher, Nick Gordon, and Sophie Hargreaves

We will explore how communities of practice can effectively develop Shared Lives by bringing people together to share their expertise, learning, and resources.

The workshop will explore our learning from piloting this approach with Shared Lives schemes from across the North-East of England

1I - Wellbeing Hour

Hosted by – Stephanie Cryer and Ben Hall

 

An interactive workshop focusing on a holistic approach to health & wellbeing exploring:

Part 1 Understanding wellbeing
We will open our wellbeing workshop by talking about understanding wellbeing and everyday barriers to having a good sense of wellbeing, we will look at how looking after our mind and body can improve quality of life.

Part 2 Let Your Breath Flow – Breathing Exercises that improve health and wellbeing
In the section, we will take some time to notice our breath and we will explore gentle breathing techniques that can help with anxiety and stress and improve our health and wellbeing.

Part 3 Gentle Seated Yoga Class – Seated yoga poses that improve
Yoga has been showed to improve overall health when practiced regularly. In this section we will explore Chair Yoga which is a gentle form of yoga that can be done while sitting, You can do chair yoga nearly anywhere you can find a place to sit. Chair yoga can improve your flexibility, concentration and strength whilst boosting your mood, and reducing stress.

1J - Human Rights

Hosted by – Eilidh Turnbull

During this workshop, the British Institute of Human Rights will share knowledge of how human rights apply every day here in the UK. The workshop will support you with information about your rights and the rights of people you care about when accessing or working with public services. The workshop will use real life stories and examples. It will be interactive and once delegates have booked on there will be a chance to put forward your questions for discussion on the day.

1K - Business Continuity Planning

A workshop aimed at schemes to provide an overview and insight into a Business Continuity plan. The presentation will include the following topics:

  • Overview of what is a Business Continuity plan and the benefits.
  • Key features and steps for creating a Business Continuity plan.
  • Common challenges faced when creating and implementing a business continuity plan.
  • The importance of testing a Business Continuity plan.
  • Business Continuity templates.

1M - Meet Shared Lives Plus’ new Chief Executive - Ewan King

Hosted by – Ewan King

An opportunity to come along and meet our new Chief Executive Officer, Ewan King.   An informal session where Ewan will share with you his vision for Shared Lives.   The session will also feature a discussion about your views of Shared Lives Plus, what our priorities should be and how we can most effectively support and represent the interests of our members.
