Workshop 1 – Wednesday 18 November 11.30am

These workshops were held during our 2020 conference

Please choose one workshop from 1A – 1E

1A Trauma informed practice in Shared Lives, what do survivors need? Ali Miller Shared Lives Plus

In this workshop we will explore what trauma is and the effect it can have on survivors. We will look at what a trauma-informed approach looks like in shared living, in the spaces we create and in the way we communicate and relate to others. We will share examples from our work in developing services for survivors of domestic abuse and modern slavery.

Delegates will be invited to think about how they and others who work with and live with survivors of trauma can practice self-care to support their roles.

1B Creative problem solving – Mark Gallagher Shared Lives Plus

Join Mark to learn about a powerful approach to creative problem solving, which anyone can do. Participants will learn a process for quickly getting to the root of problems and working with others to solve them in a clear and focused way. You will leave this practical session with the necessary confidence, tools and skills to:

  • Bring groups of people together
  • Define problems
  • Generate and prioritise ideas
  • Act on solutions

Sessions are limited to ten participants, as this process works most effectively with smaller groups. We will run the session several times over conference.

1C Shared Lives carers and tax – Gillian Wrigley LITRG

This is a workshop aimed at Shared Lives carers and scheme workers supporting them. The workshop will look at the process of completing your tax return as a Shared Lives carer, including thinking about Qualifying Care Relief – what it is, what you can and cannot claim for.

1D Cuppa for carers at Conference

This is a chance to meet the Shared Lives carer champions and other carers from across the UK.  Why not join us from the comfort of your own home and meet our friendly team and chat with other Shared Lives carers. This is an extension of our weekly cuppa 4 carer meetings where carers from across the UK come together to discuss a wide range of topics and to get support from the Shared Lives Plus team of champions.

Everybody is welcome and we hope this session will be full of friendly faces – if you haven’t attended a cuppa 4 carers session before then please come along.

1E My Shared Life – the outcome tool for Shared Lives schemes – a tour and top tips

Come and have a virtual tour of the My Shared Life tool and see how it can help your Shared Lives scheme to monitor and record outcomes and feedback for the people in your service. Learn how it can be used to evidence the effectiveness of new projects or of working with different client groups.

Get practical and effective ways for your scheme to start using and embedding My Shared Life into your everyday processes and what sort of data you can expect to receive.

1F Mental health in young men – Mark Brown and Tom Milnes

This workshop is an opportunity to join an open and inclusive discussion about mental health, young men and what we can all do to help the people we care about when they’re going through hard times.  Join Tom Milnes and Mark Brown, who both have their own experiences of mental health difficulty to discuss practical things we can all do to make other’s most difficult times easier.

1G Positive behaviour support – Tom Evans bild
