As a charity we are accountable to the Charity Commission to fulfil our purpose and follow their best practice for strong governance. In 2019, we started thinking about how Shared Lives Plus is governed; how our membership influences what we do, and how the Board of Trustees make decisions and set the direction of the organisation.
It is in our DNA as a membership organisation to ensure our members can make their voice heard and that the Board and the Senior Management Team listen.
The Chair of each forum will have a place on the Board of Trustees and their role will be to make sure Shared Lives member voices are heard and considered in every decision that is made.
Each chair will hold the position for a year – and can be re-elected for a maximum of three years. We want this post to be accessible to everyone, so we are offering training on being a Chair, and ongoing external support for the first 12 months in post. This will include some pre-meeting and meeting support, coaching, and mentoring.
