Live More: growing Shared Lives for people living with dementia and their families

We want to change people’s experience of dementia. We are doing this by trialling Shared Lives in new ways, so that we can all rediscover possibilities, create connections and draw on the strength of supportive relationships – in the middle of an often disorientating and isolating time.

Live More explores the potential of Shared Lives day arrangements for people with dementia – and their families. Staying active and connected to the people, places and things that matter to us is crucial to all of our wellbeing, especially as we get older.

Our partnership with Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership, GM ADASS, all ten local authority areas and their Shared Lives schemes, delivered incredible findings in its six month pilot in 2025-26.

Its independent evaluation in unearthed significant social and economic benefits of offering support earlier, using Shared Lives’ unique approach of matching people with shared interests for a consistent home and friendship-based relationship.

Live More is now expanding across the UK with new sites in Autumn 2026, bringing the UK government’s vision to life and helping to shift health and social care services from crisis to prevention.

“I’ve seen him grow in confidence. It gave him a safe space where he wasn’t being judged. We were just two people spending time together, at my house – or out and about, talking and doing things he enjoyed.” – Shared Lives carer
