What is Strategic Advice?

Shared Lives Plus has a well established approach to supporting the development of Shared Lives and Homeshare. We call this Strategic Advice.

We provide our Strategic Advice support to all four UK nations, and work collaboratively with councils, shared lives schemes/providers, local partners including housing, voluntary and community sector, the NHS and national organisations to develop Shared Lives and Homeshare.

Our Support

Our support will meet you where you are in your Shared Lives or Homeshare development journey, guiding you to Establish, Grow and Diversify these options in your local area.

Our support is based on best practice and evidence. We focus on supporting organisations to overcome specific barriers and develop, what we call the building blocks of successful growth:

Our Strategic Advice team consists of a range of skills and experience spanning direct experience of managing Shared Lives services, research, data analysis, recruitment expertise, adults social care practice and transformation expertise.

Establish, Grow, and Diversify Shared Lives

Establish

There are around 150 Shared Lives schemes across the UK. But there are some areas of the UK where Shared Lives is still not an option available.

Establishing Shared Lives
Grow

Shared Lives is ripe for growth in most areas, equating to only 1% of Adult Social Care provision, despite having been founded in the late 1970’s. It has typically supported working age adults, but is increasingly growing as a positive option for young people leaving care and older age adults.

We know the common barriers to growing Shared Lives to support more adults across all ages, and provide expert support to overcome these, drawing on good practice of ‘what works’.

Growing Shared Lives

Diversify

Adults with a learning disability are the single largest demographic groups drawing on Shared Lives, however there is an increasing diversity in how Shared Lives can provide support in other areas such as supporting people with mental ill health and dementia.
