Scaling up Shared Lives innovation

We know Shared Lives care has significant potential to transform individuals’ lives and society to be more connected, inclusive and human. It can also support a diverse range of peopleTraditionally seen as a learning disability service, many local schemes have grown and diversified to offer a much more flexible approach, supporting mental ill health, autism, dementia, and victims of domestic abuse.

And it’s cost-effective. Results from in depth analysis we have carried out with local authorities in England and Wales show savings range from £8,000 – £30,000 per year, compared to other forms of social care, depending on local authority.

Our partnership offer

We offer a range of bespoke and specialist advice and support, to help shape an informed strategy for your Shared Lives provision:

  • 360° independent audit of existing Shared Lives service or setting up a new Shared Lives scheme
  • Detailed data analysis of productivity and cost-benefit delivered by Shared Lives
  • A business case and options appraisal for developing and growing Shared Lives
  • Developing a plan for growth and diversification
  • Re-design systems and processers, such as assessment, referral and carer recruitment forms and processes
  • Deliver bespoke training to social care teams to raise awareness, knowledge and skills on Shared Lives
  • Supporting you to pilot and scale new models of Shared Lives support, such as for people with dementia, young people going through transition, step down from hospital and for people with mental ill-health
  • Developing a practical and targeted approach to effective recruitment, including demographic analysis to understand potential groups and ways to target
  • Communications and marketing strategy support.
