During the pandemic, Aberdeenshire Shared Lives service worked extensively with its Shared Lives carers, the people they support and their families, to successfully move their services mainly online.
This session will explore the barriers that schemes encounter in trying to develop virtual activities and services – and strategies to overcome them. We will share experiences of what does and doesn’t work for carers and the people they support, when supporting people to connect virtually. We will also consider how to ensure that online activity is as inclusive as possible for different groups.

Family by Family is a new model which supports families to share their lives. Originally an Australian model of peer support, Shared Lives Plus is working with The Australian Centre of Social Innovation to bring the model to the UK. The first Family by Family programme in the UK is being delivered in Stoke on Trent

Short films can bring Shared Lives, Homeshare and Family by Family to life and give you content for use online, to send to referrers like social workers, commissioners, or relatives to share your message visually. They are a great way to involve people and share their stories first-hand. In this workshop, you will learn how to use your phone to make a short film, how to edit it with simple editing equipment and how to use it online.
