Shared Lives South West host the Casey Commission

Yesterday representatives from Baroness Casey’s Independent Commission on Adult Social Care visited Shared Lives South West’s Devon office. They were the first care organisation to host the team as part of their national review.

The Commission, appointed by the UK Government, is undertaking a comprehensive review on how we reform the adult social care system. As part of their work, the team will be speaking to people who draw on care and support, their families, care staff, local authorities, and both public and third-sector organisations. Shared Lives Plus organised the visit where the Commission met with colleagues from Shared Lives South West, commissioning leads from Devon County Council and Cornwall Council, and Shared Lives households to learn how the scheme works, it’s incredible benefits and outcomes, and daily life in Shared Lives households.

Dominic Spayne, CEO of Shared Lives South West said,

“Throughout the visit, the team gained valuable insight into how Shared Lives works, the many benefits of this unique care model, the challenges we face, and the changes we’d like to see in the sector. This review is a significant moment for adult social care, and we’ll be watching closely as the next steps unfold.”

“Setting up this visit for the Casey Commission was an opportunity for the representatives to learn first-hand how Shared Lives schemes operate and provide person-centred support by building strong relationships in local communities. We are looking forward to continuing our work with the Commission, with our ongoing aim of growing Shared Lives throughout the UK.”
