Shared Lives Plus has released the latest report into the State of Shared Lives in Wales, which shines a spotlight on the unique and growing model of social care in Wales.
The report, which covers 2023 to 2024, reveals that the number of people supported by Shared Lives in Wales increased by 12% to 1,011 over the year, despite overall trends in the UK showing slight declines.
This impressive growth comes as schemes continue to offer flexible, person-led support including live-in care, short breaks, and day support.
With 490 people accessing live-in support, 317 benefiting from short breaks, and 216 receiving day support, Welsh Shared Lives schemes are demonstrating innovation and resilience in the face of financial constraints and wider social care pressures.
The report also highlights key demographic trends, and underscores the transformative power of human relationships in social care.
