Health and social care colleagues from across South Yorkshire came together at an event in Rotherham, to discuss the future and expansion of Shared Lives – a community-based service offering accommodation and support to adults with a learning disability and other social care needs.
The event, organised by Rotherham Council in partnership with Shared Lives Plus and Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley local authorities, heard the experiences of local people who draw on and work in Shared Lives (like Toni and Patricia pictured) and explored the actions and solutions needed to expand Shared Lives as an option to more people across the region in future.
Thanks to funding from the Accelerating Reform Fund – a national initiative in England designed to drive innovation and improvement in adult social care – local authorities are working together to expand Shared Lives to support:
A key focus of the event was identifying barriers to expansion and discussing solutions. Organisations shared their experiences and insights, which will help guide the next steps for the project.
Shared Lives Plus, appointed to support project delivery, provided an update on progress made and the work currently underway.
