Positive Futures was thrilled to host Northern Ireland Health Minister Mike Nesbitt and renowned health expert Professor Rafael Bengoa during a recent visit to their Families Matter Shared Lives service.
This visit provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase how their model of care promotes person-centred support in a family environment.
Dedicated short-breaks carer Stephanie Kenny shared her experiences alongside Annie Patrick, who benefits from the Shared Lives service, and her sister, Joanne Rudd.
Together with Dr. Agnes Lunny OBE (Chief Executive, Positive Futures) and Julie McDowell (Service Manager), they highlighted the unique, cost-effective benefits of Shared Lives care.
Minister Nesbitt and Professor Bengoa’s visit culminated in the major conference ‘Accelerating Change’ at La Mon Hotel, which focused on reforming health and social care in Northern Ireland. Health Minister Mike Nesbitt emphasised the need for a shift towards community-based care, prevention, and managing health conditions rather than just treating them.
Keynote speaker Professor Bengoa, who previously led a significant review of the health system, reiterated the critical need for transformation, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
