Our statement on Ukraine and conflict around the world

We stand with the people and charities of Ukraine, and all those against war in Russia and Belarus as well as those experiencing conflict in Syria, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Yemen, Myanmar/Burma, Kurdish people, Tibet, China and around the world. We know how vital it is for everyone to have safe, loving places that truly feel like home and we are devastated by the destruction and loss of people’s basic human rights.

There are many ways individuals and organisations can quickly intervene in through international aid organisations, or by supporting local community groups in our local areas. We call on the UK government to strengthen its humanitarian response to the disaster unfolding for our neighbours and to review their presence in global conflicts around the world.

The global impact of war affects all of us, including our members who are facing huge cost of living increases which make their roles, especially those of Shared Lives carers, along with the rest of the social care and voluntary sector, unsustainable.

To all our Ukrainian and Russian members against war and around the world, we are truly sorry to see the pain that your nations face, and we stand with you in resolute peace and hope.

For information on talking about human rights with people with a learning disability, members could share this easy read booklet about human rights and our resources on managing anxiety (log in).
