In October 2021, three longer-term residents living with carers, Helen Chenery and Shaun Swain holidayed on a 5* cruise ship travelling around the Canary Islands.
The holiday was requested by the residents who were dreaming of sunshine, exploring new places and a time to relax and pamper themselves.
Whilst on holiday they enjoyed beauty treatments, dances, exquisite dinners, and each resident had their own suite. It was a time to invest in a new wardrobe and dress up for special occasions every night.
The carers meticulously planned the activities to ensure safe freedom of movement whilst on the boat. It was important for Helen that all her service users had the freedom to make financial purchases (through a safeguarded medallion system for people with special needs), freedom to choose what to eat, what activities to participate with full consideration to a COVID safe environment where their health needs were catered for by all professionals on board.
Not only have these residents been to the Canary Islands but in December, they also had a weekend in London. The trip included a performance of the pantomime, a theatre production of “Only Fools and Horses” and and a visit to the Christmas lights in Oxford Street.
Helen and Shaun refuse to see any social barriers for their residents as they book luxury afternoon tea with bottomless champagne and stay at the five start Waldorf Hotel. Helen and Shaun consistently deliver lifelong memorable experiences influenced by the interests of their residents which highlights the exceptional impact that Shared Lives has on the lives of our clients.
